“Cheer” coach Monica Aldama says she is “devastated” after the show’s star Jerry Harris was arrested on federal child pornography charges.
“My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I am devastated by this shocking, unexpected news,” Aldama wrote in a statement on Friday.
She added, “Our children must be protected from abuse and exploitation, and I’m praying hard for the victims and everyone affected.”
Aldama also asked that fans respect her privacy as her family “mourns during this heartbreaking time.”
As Page Six previously reported, 21-year-old Harris was arrested and charged with one count of producing child pornography and allegedly admitted to receiving X-rated photos from “at least between 10-15 other individuals he knew were minors,” according to a complaint filed by the US Attorney’s Office in Chicago.
Earlier this week, we reported that Harris was being investigated by the FBI for allegedly soliciting minors.
He was also sued for $1 million by twin brothers who accused Harris of demanding sexually explicit photos of them and molesting them after becoming friends at a national competition.
Reps for Harris have denied the accusations made by the twins.
If convicted, he is facing a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and maximum of 30 years.
A spokesperson for the Netflix show — which follows the cheer squad from Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas — said in a statement, “Like everyone we are shocked by this news. Any abuse of minors is a terrible crime and we respect the legal process.”
