British supermodel Stella Tennant has died at the age of 50.
Her family confirmed the sad news in a statement to the BBC. "It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on 22nd December 2020. Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed,” the statement read. “Her family asks for their privacy to be respected. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.”
Tennant was among some of the most famous models to come out of the '80s and '90s. She was on the cover of Harper's Bazaar, and Vogue, and was a staple of dozens of runways including Versace, Chanel, Prada, and Alexander McQueen. Most recently, she walked the runway for Valentino's Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
After the news was announced, several of her colleagues in the fashion community posted condolences "Stella was Gianni Versace’s muse for many years and friend of the family. We will miss you forever Stella. Rest In Peace," the Versace account tweeted out. "Stella Tennant, the coolest of the aristo-models, has died. I’ll never forget seeing her walk in Helmut Lang shows. She defined off-hand chic," New York Times fashion critic Vanessa Friedman wrote.
Tennant is survived by her four children, Iris, Jasmine, Cecily, and Marcel. Out thoughts are with her family.
