Princess Diana: Which pieces of Diana’s jewellery now belong to Meghan and Kate?

Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018 in a gorgeous wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Prince William married Kate Middleton in 2011, in a large ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Both Harry and William made special preparations to honour their mother on their respective wedding days, with items of Princess Diana’s private jewellery collection playing a part in their big days.

After Princess Diana’s death in 1997, her jewellery collection was left to her two boys, and it remains in their possession.

But both Harry and William’s wives have been spotted wearing pieces from her collection over the years.

At the time a famous Hollywood actress, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement in 2017.

Royal fans were elated to catch a first glimpse of Meghan’s engagement ring, which includes a number of different elements which hold a special place in the couple’s hearts.

The ring featured gems from Princess Diana’s personal collection, along with other elements with significant meaning.

Harry said during the interview: “The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s [Meghan’s] favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”

Harry and Meghan visited Botswana when they first started dating, and have spoken fondly of the time they spent together there.

Some years prior to Meghan and Harry’s engagement, Kate Middleton and Prince William became engaged in 2010.

After Princess Diana died, her engagement ring was given to Prince William, and her iconic wedding dress was passed to Prince Harry.

Kate debuted the ring at the announcement of her and Prince William’s engagement, which she coordinated with the now iconic navy dress.

William said at the time that giving Kate his mother’s engagement ring was his way of making sure Diana did not miss out on his wedding day.

The ring features a large 12-carat oval blue sapphire and is surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds.

Unlike other royal engagement rings, Princess Diana’s was actually not bespoke.

Diana is said to have picked the ring herself from the jewellers, Garrard, which is favoured by the Royal Family.

In addition to their engagement rings, both Meghan and Kate have been spotted wearing other items from Princess Diana’s collection in recent years.

After her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan was spotted leaving St George’s Chapel wearing Diana’s aquamarine ring.

Diana had commissioned the ring from jewellers Asprey in 1996.

Kate has also worn a number of earrings from Diana’s collection over the last few years.

At the 2019 BAFTA awards, Kate was spotted wearing Diana’s diamond and pearl earrings.

Although part of the Queen’s private collection, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara was also known to be a favourite of Princess Diana.

Kate debuted the headwear for the first time in 2015 and has since worn it on numerous occasions.
