The name of their daughter is a touching tribute to Harry’s grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen and his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Harry and Meghan announced the birth of their daughter via a press release on their Archewell Foundation website.

This read: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA.

“She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”

Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, added: “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Now, Piers Morgan has shared his thoughts on the second member of the British Royal Family to have been born in America.

In view of his 7.9 million followers, former Good Morning Britain co-anchor said: “To those asking for my reaction to the new royal baby, I am respecting her parents’ constant pleas for privacy and declining to comment.”

However, celebratory messages have since flooded social media from stars delighted by the news of the birth.

Loose Women star Denise Welch posted: “So happy for Meghan and Harry on the birthday of their daughter Lilibet Diana. I hope Meghan is able to enjoy her new baby free from postnatal depression which she suffered from after Archie. I hope they find the happiness they deserve as a family.”

Photographer Misan Harriman, who snapped the official pregnancy announcement picture took to Instagram, writing: “Lilibet has arrived! Congratulations to my brave friend and her lovely family! #allthatmatters #babyjoy.”

While chat show host and neighbour Ellen DeGeneres added: “Congratulations Meghan, Harry and Archie, welcome to the world Lilabet! I am more than a Lilabet, excited to meet you! [sic]”

Following the delightful news, a spokesperson for The Queen said: “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana! The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news. Lilibet is Her Majesty’s 11th great-grandchild.”

Prince William and his wife, Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge said: “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”

Lilibet is 8th in line to the throne after her brother, Archie Harrison, who is sixth.

The first seven places in the line of succession remain unchanged – the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Harry, and Archie Mountbatten-Windsor- with Lili following after.

Following the birth of Lilibet, the line of succession has faced a major revamp.

Prince Andrew, 61, who was born second in line in 1960, has moved down to 9th place.

Lilibet is the second member of the Mountbatten-Windsor family to have been born in the United States.

The first being Maud Windsor, the daughter of Lord Frederick Windsor and wife, Sophie Winkleman.

Maud is the granddaughter of Prince Michael and Princess Michael of Kent.

Currently, the seven-year-old is 53rd in the line to the throne and was born in Los Angeles, before parents Frederick and Sophie moved back to London.
