James Martin, 49, has paid his respects to Adrian Hamilton today, who was a “character” in the classic car world and sold the celebrity chef luxury vehicles. The This Morning star mourned his late friend in touching social media posts, as he said “they don’t make them” like Adrian anymore.

On Twitter in view of his 706,000 followers, James said: “The car world has sadly lost a titan. Honoured to have known, drank with and bought from Adrian Hamilton over the years.

“They don’t make them like this fine chap anymore. RIP buddy,” he added.

Another follower further elaborated on the circumstances of Adrian’s death, as they revealed he had suffered from a “short illness”.

They typed: “Very sad to learn that Adrian Hamilton has passed away after a short illness.

“He was always good company and a great support throughout the 25 years I knew him. Once tossed me the key to his priceless ‘53 Le Mans-winning Jaguar C-type too… Thoughts and condolences to his family.”

A separate Twitter user also recalled fond memories he had of meeting the car dealer.

They wrote: “This is also tragic news. Had the pleasure of meeting him aged 13 as I’d painted his father, Duncan, twice for my prizewinning painting for the BRDC young artist award in ‘95.

“He was over the moon that I had chosen to paint him. RIP. “

Adrian took the reins of the car business Duncan Hamilton ROFGO following his father’s retirement in 1975.

He was no stranger to racing, having competed in touring cars and also the iconic GT40.

His passion for cars and determination to make people’s dreams come true had steered the company to purchase and sell some of the world’s finest classic road and competition cars.

Over the years, Adrian had been responsible for the sale of some spectacular cars: nine Ferrari 250 GTOs, 20 Ford GT40s, seven Porsche 917s, numerous Jaguar C and D Types, and many more.

James is a huge fan of classic cars. In fact, the celebrity chef owns 15 of them.

The star has previously organised a Supercar Sunday event in Manchester where he brought along some of his favourite cars including his 1965 350 Shelby Mustang, 1965 Ferrari 275, 1972 Ferrari Dino, 1972 Ferrari Daytona, 1991 Ferrari Testerossa and his 1953 Ford Prefect.

He has previously said he would rather add to his car collection than have kids.

Although James is in a relationship with Louise Davies and says he’s happier than ever in his life, he believes his money is best spent on the maintenance of current items or future investments for the collection.

When asked in a 2018 interview if he’s thinking of having kids, he simply responded with “No.”

“I go round to my mate’s house, who has four kids, and realize that I don’t want them after about two minutes,” he told Daily Mail.

“Kids are great, but it’s just no, not for me. You sacrifice so much in this work and the job and everything else. Never, no.”

James added that the cars are his “babies” and he’s focusing all his energy on them.
