BBC podcast presenter Deborah James was in tears after taking to social media yesterday, where she explained that she is not allowed any hospital visitors. The You, Me and the Big C star, 39, who has been living with stage four bowel cancer since she was diagnosed in December 2016, shared her frustrations over Covid rules.

The mother-of-two suffered a “spiking fever” and is spending her fourth evening hospitalised.

Deborah took to Instagram today and shared an update from her hospital bed.

In view of her 181,000 followers, Deborah took to her stories and wrote: “Update: So I hit rock bottom.

“And finally my mum has been allowed to visit. (Still don’t think it should take rock bottom to make that happen).”

She went on: “Anyway, very grateful to have her here. You need help to scrape off the floor!

“I thought last week I was at rock bottom. I was wrong – there was another bottom.”

The podcast host explained that she is currently fighting an infection but did not provide further details.

Deborah continued: “I’m really not very well at the moment. Fighting a pretty serious infection.

“Will update you when I know more but I’m being well looked after, undergoing lots of tests and monitoring and being pumped full of drugs to heal me!

“Thanks for all of your kind messages. Please send me healing vibes.”

The news comes after spent her third night in the hospital where she said she was not allowed to have any visitors.

In view of her 30,000 Twitter followers, Deborah penned: “I think I’m done with the ridiculous ‘rules’. It’s my 3rd night in hospital.

“I’ve spent too long here recently. I see everyone jumping on each other to celebrate the football. I’m not allowed any visitor in to help me through a rough time.”

She finished: “Enough is enough #MentalHealthMatters.”

Deborah later took to her Instagram stories where she shared a tearful update.

She began: “Good evening from a very fed up girl who is day three in hospital for an infection, that’s getting treated. I’ve been crying for most of the day.

“I requested time and time again can I have a visitor?”

She explained that she had asked if her mum could at least visit her while in hospital after witnessing the crowds at Wimbledon and Wembley stadium.

Government restrictions on Covid are currently still in place but most legal restrictions are expected to be lifted in England from July 19.

To help stop the spread of Covid-19, most hospitals have stopped or significantly limited visits.
