Taking to Twitter last night, Dick announced the news to his 81,500 followers.

He wrote: “Check this out!!”

The star went on to generously urge his social media fans to vote for his wife in the sweet tweet.

“And we are competing against each other in one category… not sure what to say other than vote for Angela!!” he added.

Other contenders in the same category include Fred Sirieix from First Dates, Olivia Attwood from TOWIE and Thomas Skinner fom The Apprentice.

The favourite reality property show was also nominated in categories Best Business Show and Best Reality Non-Competition Show.

Dick also shared a picture of him and his wife beaming at the news.

The snap read: “Four categories and for the 1st time ever, we are up against each other for Reality Person of the Year!

“You can only vote for one of us, so choose wisely!”

Fans were quick to take to the comments section to reveal who they were planning to vote for.

One applauded the former army officer for his tweet and wrote: “What a true gentleman, very chivalrous indeed!”

While another added that both Dick and Angel were deserving of the award, adding: “Congrats, you both should win.” (sic)

A third commented: “Wish we could vote for you both but we know if either one of you win you will share your joy with the other as we all know you are a close knit team as well as a loving married couple.” (sic)

They wrote: “Sorry Dick, but you’re my vote, Angela is the boss so she wins that hands down!!”

In an earlier episode of Escape to the Chateau, Angel revealed the reason why she fell in love with husband Dick.

Looking around the property Chateau de la Motte Husson, she joked: “I like old things, that’s why I’m with Dick.”

It took the couple four years before they fell in love with Chateau de la Motte Husson and decided to buy it within an hour of viewing.

The couple managed to buy their dream home for £250,000, which was the equivalent of €340,000 at the time.

The French property has 45 rooms, set over five floors and comes with 20 acres of land.

Escape to the Chateau is available to watch on All 4.
