Eddie Van Halen Dead At 65 After Battle With Cancer

Eddie Van Halen, the legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, passed away Tuesday morning (October 6) after a long battle with throat cancer.

According to TMZ, Van Halen (aged 65) died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, and his wife Janie Liszewski, son Wolfgang and brother Alex were by his side. It said the guitarist previously recovered from lung cancer in 2002. This time, the throat cancer spread to his brain.

“I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning,” Wolfgang wrote on Twitter, confirming the news.
“He was the best father I could ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift.”

“My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever recover from this loss,” he added. “I love you so much, Pop.”

In September, Van Halen spoke about his close relationship with son “Wolfie” in an interview with The Hard Times.

Van Halen’s ex-wife, and mother of Wolfgang, Valerie Bertinelli replied with several broken heart emojis.

Van Halen is one of the top 20 best-selling artists of all time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar paid tribute to their former bandmate on social media. Roth wrote, “What a long great trip it’s been.” Hager and Anthony said Van Halen’s death has left them speechless and heartbroken.
