Gemma Atkinson, 37, and Gorka Marquez, 31, met when she took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. After a whirlwind romance they welcomed their daughter, Mia, in July 2019 and announced they were engaged on Valentine’s Day this year. Now, the DJ has shared new details about her upcoming nuptials to the dancer.

Speaking via her Instagram Story last night, the Emmerdale actress updated her 1.7 million followers on how the wedding planning is going.

She said: “We have done zero planning with all the Covid stuff.

“We’ve twice almost gone into the registry office and just done it, but I don’t think our families would be happy!

“They want a good party.”

Shortly after their engagement, Gemma discussed her wedding on Steph’s Packed Lunch and hinted that she would get married abroad.

She said: “We’re obviously not going to do it this year given everything that is going on, the only thing we have agreed on so far is that we are going to do it abroad.

“Gorka wants his family to be able to order drinks at the bar and understand the waiters.

“His family don’t speak English and my family don’t speak Spanish, so we’ve said that we’ll meet halfway.

“That’s all we’ve agreed on. Not this year, but the year after – if I can tolerate him for that long obviously!”

Husband-to-be Gorka returned to this year’s Strictly and was partnered with Coronation Street actress, Katie McGlynn.

They were voted off in week three, but he has still appeared in the show’s group dances and spin-off show It Takes Two.

Earlier this month, Gorka broke down in tears when he made a heartfelt tribute to his fiancée when discussing his most memorable Strictly moments on the programme.

He stated: “I met Gemma in 2017. She didn’t dance with me, she danced with Aljaž [Škorjanec].

“We just became very good mates and I think that was the key because we were friends before everything happened.

“Now we have a beautiful daughter.”

Gorka explained he owes a lot to the BBC dance show, saying: “Without Strictly I would never have met Gemma.

“I think she’s the best person in the world. She inspires me every day.

“She makes me a better man, a better person, a better everything.

“I’m just grateful to have her and call her my fiancée,” he said, breaking down crying.

Gorka exclaimed “Oh my god!” as he wiped away his tears.
