Dan Walker, 44, took to social media this morning to address a slip-up that he made earlier this week. The BBC Breakfast presenter, who is no stranger to presenting live TV, accidentally revealed the launch date for Strictly Come Dancing 2021, which he is taking part in this year.

Dan has now shared a post from the official Strictly Instagram account which told fans that the programme will kick off in 15 days time.

Alongside the video, he addressed the mistake and apologised.

“About time someone told us the start date for #Strictly this year,” the broadcaster quipped, adding a gritted teeth and laughing emoji.

He added the hashtags “#Sorry” and “#StrickiLeaks” – a nod to his new nickname.

The original post, which included a video of his co-star Tom Fletcher playing air-guitar, read: “@bbcstrictly The countdown is ON!

“Only 15 days to go until @tomfletcher and our #Strictly stars hit the dancefloor.”

Many took to the comments section of his post to wish him luck in the up-coming competition.

“Cannot wait. So excited about this year’s Strictly lineup,” one follower wrote.

“Good Luck. We can’t wait for it to start,” another added.

“Agh! So close to start date! Excited is an understatement!” said pro dancer turned It Takes Two presenter Janette Manrara.

“It’s a countdown…” added two-time reigning champion Oti Mabuse.

Dan made the embarrassing slip-up while presenting his morning show BBC Breakfast with co-star Louise Minchin.

The 52-year-old TV star, who is leaving the show this month, announced the date of her last day.

“I was just going to put your date in the diary,” Dan began on Wednesday’s show.

“I meet and greet the partner in a couple of days time, and actually the first show is on the 18th and then the live shows start on the 25th,” he continued without realising the error.

At the time, Strictly Come Dancing had not officially announced the start date of series 19.

Earlier in the week, Dan, who has been sharing behind-the-scenes updates on social media, informed fans that he had to have his dancing shoes specially-made.

“The ‘specially made’ whopper dancey shoe has just arrived. Look at the size of this puppy!” he wrote online alongside a picture of the shiny shoes, in view of his 205,00 followers.

“Enjoying day 2 of #Strictly prep. Just met @pernicegiovann1 and he was lovely,” he added, referring to professional dancer Giovanni Pernice.
