Chris Hughes shows support for ex Jesy Nelson as she quits Little Mix after ‘mental health struggle’

Chris Hughes has showed his support for his ex girlfriend Jesy Nelson after she quit Little Mix to focus on herself.

Black Magic hitmaker Jesy, 29, took to her Instagram feed on 14 December to announce the sad news to her 7.4million followers, explaining that being in the band has "really taken a toll on my mental health" in a candid statement.

Following the lead of her legion of followers and celebrity friends, former Love Island star Chris commented underneath: "The best," followed by a red heart emoji.

Fans were clearly impressed by the star's ability to push aside his prior feelings towards Jesy and show his support as one person replied to him: "thanks for being there for her every time she needed it." [sic]

Another wrote: "You are a real man," alongside a white heart emoji, while a third chimed: "thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting her," [sic] with a white heart emoji.

A fourth added: "I don't think she's been right since you two split, hope there's a way back for you both," followed by a red heart emoji and a blue heart emoji.

Jesy and 27 year old Chris split in April this year after a 16-month-long relationship. Since then the singer has gone on to find love with Our Girl star Sean Sagar, 30, while Chris has remained single.

Opening up about their shock break-up at the time, Chris told Vicky Pattison on her podcast, The Secret To: Showing Your Sensitive Side, that is was "tough".

“It was tough, and when everyone’s like, time’s a healer, you don’t believe it when you’re in the moment,” he explained.

TV star Vicky then explained how she felt heartbroken following her split from ex-fiancé John Noble, to which Chris replied: “I can relate to that, because I don’t think I’ve ever felt heartbroken or anything.

“And then a couple of week’s down the line, you start thinking about it less and less. And the next thing, you’re good as gold.”

Chris then shared his plans to start dating again, however joked that he feels “useless” with women.

Vicky chimed: “You’ve been writing women letters and that?”

As Chris replied: “I do that anyway! Haha! No, it’s one of them things. This lockdown feels like it’s gone on for so long. I’ll be alright, I’ll get straight back into it.”
