Chloe x Halle sang the National Anthem on Thursday night, kicking off the NFL season with a pre-taped performance that was aired before the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans started playing.
The singers honored Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, whose lives—along with the lives of countless other Black men and women—were taken at the hands of police violence and a racist system, which protesters across the country are fighting to dismantle.
During the performance, Halle wore a shirt with an image of George Floyd and the words “Rest in Power,” while Chloe wore a shirt with an image of Breonna Taylor and the words “Say Her Name.” Kansas City Chiefs players linked arms as they watched the sisters sing, while defensive end Alex Okafor knelt and raised his fist.
