Reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner has revealed she's officially submitted the initial paperwork to run for governor of California in the US.

The 71 year old took to her Instagram feed to share a press release to break the news while announcing her new campaign website CaitlynJenner.com.

In a statement, she wrote: "California have been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

"But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision."

Caitlyn went on to explain she's been a "disrupter" all her life from winning the gold meal at the Olympics to "helping advance the movement for equality."

The star then vowed to take on "entrenched Sacramento politicians" as she "isn't afraid to do what is right."

In the caption, she added: "I’m in! California is worth fighting for. Visit link in bio to follow or donate today."
