50 Cent Honored With Key to City of Houston After Giving Away 1,000 Thanksgiving Meals

The rapper/TV producer is also being named as grand marshal of this year’s H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade and honored with his own day by Mayor Sylvester Turner after he gave away 1,000 turkeys to the city’s residents.

AceShowbiz50 Cent is applauded by the Houston Mayor for his thoughtful behavior. The “Power” co-creator/star is honored with a key to the city of Houston after giving away 1,000 Thanksgiving turkeys to the city’s residents.

During the Thanksgiving Day Parade Ceremony on Thursday, November 24, Mayor Sylvester Turner introduced Fiddy to the crowd. “Out to the grand marshal for 2022, Curtis ’50’ Jackson,” Mayor Turner began. “I want to thank him. Look, he came to the city of Houston, but he didn’t just come here to live…he’s been helping out this city. And especially, he has been in our high schools, turning our high school students into entrepreneurs with this year’s Unity Camp program.”

“And so today, we have the honor of saying to him, he’s out 2022 grand marshal,” Mayor Turner continued. He then gave Fif a key to the city of Houston. “Anywhere you go, five hundred and fifty buildings, use the key, and the door will swing wide open,” the Mayor explained, before joking, “Just don’t do it anytime soon.”

Mayor Turner continued to present 50 Cent a “proclamation.” The proclamation read, “The city of Houston congratulates Jackson on his successful career, his countless humanitarian projects and for helping to make the annual parade a success.”

“I want to thank you for allowing me to rap with you on one of your songs, I appreciate that to God be the glory,” Mayor Turner stated. “And so I have the pleasure and therefore I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor City of Houston, hereby proudly proclaim this day, November 24th, 2022, as Curtis ’50’ Jackson Day in the city of Houston.”

In response 50 Cent said, “Thank you, Mayor Turner. I just want to say it’s an honor to be here today. I’m really excited about being in Houston and since I’ve made my way out here, the Houstonians have embraced me with open arms.” He continued, “It just feels like a great place for me to expand unity.”

“You know, it’s exciting for me to like to make the next level,” Fif said before getting emotional. “I think the people in legacy are always people who help people…so it’s exciting for me to make it to the next stage. Thank you.”

Later, 50 Cent turned to his Instagram feed to express his gratitude. Along with a news headline that read, “Thanksgiving Day Parade: Houston Mayor honors 50 Cent with key to city,” the “In Da Club” rapper wrote, “Happy Holidays God Bless, wishing you and yours a happy thanksgiving.”

Fiddy teamed up with Houston Rockets to bring holiday cheer to Houston residents with a Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway earlier this week. The turkey drive took place on Tuesday, November 22 right outside the Toyota Center, the home of the Rockets.

Guests were treated to one Thanksgiving meal per vehicle, as well as turkeys that were given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Thanksgiving meal included food items donated by 50 Cent’s G-Unity Foundation, Kroger and Spec’s, along with a ticket voucher to an upcoming Rockets home game. Supplies were limited to the first 1,000 vehicles, meaning only families in need were encouraged to pull up to the event.

“I just want them to have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy themselves, you know what I’m saying?” Fif said at the event. “I’m actually coming in here fashionably. My kids been here working and putting it together, so I gotta catch up and put in more work so they don’t gotta look at me like I got them out here first.”
