While the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has halted the cadence of everyday life for just about everyone, the world is now beginning to adjust. We’re all handling the challenges of social distancing and self-isolation differently—but that doesn’t mean that we have to go it completely alone in every sense.

Bobby Maximus, former UFC fighter, fitness personality, and author of the Men’s Health Maximus Body book, hosted the latest session. Maximus makes a point to train without equipment even when he has a fully-stocked gym at his disposal—so creating an accessible session for guys stuck at home without access to gear fits perfectly to his training style.
His most recent session falls right in line with this school of thought. In fact, the only piece of equipment you’ll need isn’t even something you’d typically find in the gym: a standard deck of playing cards.
“This is one of my favorite things to do when I don’t know what else to do,” says Maximus of the setup. “When I’m bored, when I want some variety and when I just want to push myself.”

Here’s how the game works: Maximus (or you at home, if you ever want to replicate the format) decides on a bodyweight exercise, then pulls a card. Whatever number you pull, you follow up with that many reps. “Try to name the movement before the number so you don’t cheat,” advises Maximus.
You can follow along with Maximus above—or set a timer for 12 minutes (or however long you choose to subject yourself to this fitness game of chance), then get to work.
