Could jamsu be the key to perfect makeup?

Looking for an easy way to smooth your skin and perfect your makeup? Jamsu could be the answer.

Jamsu is the latest beauty trend to make its way from South Korea to, well, everywhere else, popping up on TikTok, Instagram, and even getting mentioned by Bella Hadid.

You might already be familiar with it – jamsu first started getting mentioned by beauty bloggers and influencers in 2017, but has seen a resurgence in recent weeks thanks to a combination of TikTok stars discovering the technique and lockdown making us bored enough to try stranger and stranger hacks for flawless skin.

Meaning ‘dunk’ or ‘submerge’, jamsu is the technique of dipping your face in ice cold water after applying your foundation, concealer, and contour.

The idea is that the cold water sets your makeup and adds a more matte effect, making it ideal for those with oily skin.

The end result is a smoother finish and longer-lasting makeup.

If you want your makeup to last long try it’s called jamsu ! #makeuphack #diybeauty #beautyhacks #makeuptutorial #flawlessmakeup #skincareblogger

Maree Kinder, founder of Beauty & Seoul, tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Following base application (foundation, concealer, and powder), dunk your head in cold water three times for about ten seconds.

‘Make sure to use a bowl big enough that you can move your face around in.

‘[Jamsu] works with most base applications such as foundations, BB creams, etc, but you must use a powder to set it.

‘The powder needs to be evenly distributed on the skin otherwise results can be uneven.

‘The water repels the powder and presses it to set on your skin, which is why powder is the critical step.’

Does it work? Yes, as long as you like a matte look and don’t mind the sensation of shoving your face in icy water, which can be too much of a shock for some (especially first thing in the morning).

It’s not something we’d recommend for every day, as the end result can be a bit heavy, but if you’re heading to a special occasion and want your makeup to stay in place for hours, it’s worth giving jamsu.

Just make sure you dunk your face at the right stage in your makeup application. Post-mascara you’ll only end up with a serious case of panda eyes.
